Remember, when you apply for a mortgage today lenders will perform a credit reference check, which looks at your financial history. This helps inform lenders of your level of risk when it comes to credit. A low score or rating can negatively impact your ability to borrow.
When a lender checks your credit rating in order to assess your suitability for a mortgage, this can show up on your credit file itself. Multiple hard searches can negatively affect your credit rating.
As a result it’s recommended that mortgage applicants access their credit rating via one of the main credit reference agencies (Equifax, Experian) or through a credit reference broker who access your report from these agencies on your behalf. This can incur a charge however some organisations offer a report for free.
It’s possible when applying for a mortgage for your broker to run soft checks first, if you’re still unsure of your score and likely impact on your application, discuss this with your Your Prosperity advisor when applying for your mortgage today.
